Recent Updates: Legislative Agenda, Gender Justice at SXSW, and more
March 12, 2024
Spring is coming, and so is a busy month at Gender Justice! Here’s a recap of what we’ve been up to so far, and what we’re doing in the weeks ahead:
We Lobbied, We Rallied, Now It’s Time to Win
Last week, we took part in the Reproductive Freedom Lobby Day at the Minnesota State Capitol to build community, meet with our legislators, and rally for this year’s legislative agenda. From insurance coverage for abortion and gender affirming care, to the ERA, the state legislature is in for a big session, and we made it clear that we’re ready to keep last year’s momentum going in making Minnesota a leader for rights and justice.
Gender Justice at South by Southwest Film Festival
We were so thrilled to be at South by Southwest 2024 for the premiere of Preconceived – a documentary film that tells the stories of some of the thousands of people who have been deceived by the coercive anti-abortion propaganda mills known as crisis pregnancy centers.
At SXSW, Gender Justice Executive Director Megan Peterson moderated a panel discussion between advocates and researchers that you can listen to here!
Trans Day of Visibility
Trans Day of Visibility is coming up on March 31, and now, more than ever, it’s crucial to show up and learn about ways to support the trans community, and build trans power. There are two events you should be sure to check out:
- Building Trans Power – Panel and Social Hour: Attend this event hosted by MN Abortion Action Committee and community partners to learn from trans activists and local organizations building networks of community power, expanding resources for trans refugees, and fighting for LGBTQ+ rights in Minnesota! The event is on March 30 at 2:00 p.m. Sign up, and find the details here!
- Capitol Building Rally: Save the date for a rally at the capitol on March 27 from 12:00-2:00 p.m.! More info coming soon.
Next Trans Equity Training
Our next Trans Equity Training is taking place on March 21 at 5:30 p.m. over Zoom! At these trainings, participants learn how best to talk about issues affecting people who are transgender, find ways to take action to combat the rising tide of violence against trans people, and meet others who are passionate about the fight for trans equity and empowerment. All genders and allies are welcome!
